PRIORITIES FOR CHICAGO SCHOOLS

  • Every child in Chicago deserves access to a high-quality education that prepares them for college, careers, and life. Michelle believes strong academics must be the foundation of every school.

    She will work to strengthen instructional quality across the district by supporting teachers and principals with the tools and training they need to help students succeed. Early literacy and strong reading skills are essential, and Michelle will prioritize strategies that ensure students develop these skills early so they can thrive academically throughout their educational journey.

  • Families are essential partners in education. Parents and caregivers deserve clear information, meaningful opportunities to engage with their schools, and a voice in the decisions that affect their children.

    Michelle will prioritize transparency in district decision-making so families understand how policies, budgets, and school decisions are made. She supports strong community engagement and believes school leadership must actively listen to parents, students, and community members when shaping policies.

  • Every student deserves access to the resources they need to succeed. Michelle believes school funding should be equitable so that all children.  Regardless of their neighborhood, all children deserve to have access to strong teachers, high-quality programs, and the support necessary to thrive.

    At the same time, the district must ensure that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly. Michelle believes the Board of Education has a duty to carefully review district spending and ensure there is a clear return on investment for the resources allocated to schools and programs.

    Chicago Public Schools faces difficult financial realities, and responsible leadership will require making thoughtful and sometimes difficult choices. With nearly 30 years of experience in education leadership and deep knowledge of district operations and budgeting, Michelle understands how to evaluate spending decisions and prioritize investments that strengthen student outcomes.
